10 Years from Indigenous EP

I've been recently confronted by the realization that 10 years have already passed since the creation of the Indigenous EP. They say time goes by faster as you get older, and I can definitely attest to the fact that this has been the fastest decade I have ever experienced. That is not to say that it has been a quiet or inconsequential decade. It has actually been probably the most intense and important decade of my life, and possibly in the modern history of humanity. Yet, it went by quite fast, and that's a jarring dichotomy.
While there has been substantial musical growth since Indigenous was recorded, I can still consider that EP the best recording I have done. A collection of 6 songs, including a re-recording of Perdiendo la Cordura and 5 new tracks I had never recorded before. My voice was still not where I wished it was, but probably much better than the "hooligan screams" of the Balistica days. I wanted the music and recording to feel as if they had been done in the 70s, and I think that feeling was achieved. Engineer/co-producer Chico Jones brought a great deal of talent into the mix, helping guide the 10+ musicians who participated in it. Genius sax player and composer J. Serrato also played an important role in writing the beautiful horn arrangements that adorn most of the tracks.
Many people have asked me about the cover. They've asked: Why would I want to put someone else on it who wasn't me? Candelario Palma, as photographed by my partner Romina Olson during the El Gallo days, felt like the right choice. First, this album is ultimately a wedding gift to my wife, a symbol of a collaboration that started many years ago and has produced wonderful outcomes, especially our two little children. Second, I wanted Palma to be front and center, as a way to show that indigenous side of me that is very much present, and that will always be there, no matter how much I may try to hide it at times.
To complement this quick trip down recent memory lane, here's the lyric video I created at the time for "Perdiendo La Cordura."
In my mind, I was going to create videos for each song and play many shows with the entire band. While some shows did happen, it was never at the scale I imagined.
Gotta blame Facundo for it. That dude knows how to dream.
I'm just always playing catch up.
